Dining in DC to host DC Food Blogger Happy Hour at Carmine’s DC.

Are you hungry? Good … join me at the next DC Food Blogger Happy Hour which will be held on Wednesday, October 6th at the new Carmine’s DC. If you haven’t been there then you’ll be shocked by the enormous space. Carmine’s DC is the largest restaurant in Washington, DC with more than 20,000 square feet and 700 seats. We will be in a private dining room and who knows maybe we’ll catch a glimpse of a high profile person sneaking in through the “secret service” entrance.

What: Special invitation to DC Food Bloggers and guests. Food will be provided graciously by Carmines. Come hungry! Their food is worth waiting for.

Note: An earlier post reported in error that complementary drinks would also be provided.  This is not correct.  Beer, wine, and specialty drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.

When: Wednesday, October 6th 6-8 p.m.

Come meet, mingle, and chat with fellow food bloggers. Whether you’re a regular DCFBHH attendee or you’re interested in putting a face to a name for some of your favorite local food bloggers, come hang with us. I will be serving as the “Hostess” with the Mostest this month, so please come say hello.

Also, now the DC food bloggers have a new Facebook fan page, a virtual space to hang out, converse, and get to know each other. If you are a food blogger (or a food lover) feel free to “become a fan.” We’ll be posting future events via Facebook, so it’s a great way to keep up on what’s going on. If you plan on attending, please RSVP to the DC Food Blogger Facebook page.

Hope to see you there! If you plan to attend, if you plan on attending, please RSVP to the DC Food Blogger Facebook page. Thanks! See you there! And feel free to repost this flyer on your blog to spread the word.

July’s DC Food Blogger Happy Hour at the Passenger: July 7 with cameo food trucks.

It’s that time again … for our DC Food Blogger Happy Hour. The next one will be July 7th at the Passenger. Here’s the skinny on the venue.

The Passenger, the most recent project of Mixologist brothers Tom and Derek Brown, with a combined 40 years experience have shaken and stirred at the best places in D.C., including Komi, Citronelle, Palena, Cordorouy and of course, the Gibson. The Passenger that opened in November of last year has become a cool watering hole while remaining true to D.C.’s history. The space that is now the Passenger was once “the Warehouse” co-owned by Paul Ruppert, (also a partner in the Passenger), dates back to 1890 and once was home to Ruppert Hardware, a fixture in D.C. for nearly 100 years.  With the opening of the Columbia Room, they are providing a cocktail experience that you might only get in New York Japanese style. The Going out Gurus reported that Derek  said that the Columbia Room will be a “cocktail club and laboratory bar,” where he’ll lead small classes and offer a couple of seatings a night for customers who want “a different level” of interaction with a bartender as he makes their drinks. “I was really inspired by Japanese bars,” he says. “I like that level of service for people who are really into their cocktails.”

Sound like a good time? Good! Now join the best and brightest of DC Food Bloggers on Wednesday, July 7th at the Passenger. In addition, DC’s hippest food trucks will be making a cameo appearance so we can experience some street food.

Thrifty DC Cook is the “hostess with the mostess” this month, so make sure to say hello to Sylvie when you arrive.  She’s one of the coolest, nicest bloggers I’ve met in DC .  RSVP on the food blogger facebook site and don’t forget to become a fan.

See you there.

DC Food Blogger Happy Hour this month at Restaurant 3.

Sorry for the late notice, but better late than never, I always say! It’s that time again. Spring always makes people think about bacon. Ok. Not really, but bacon is one of those things that never needs a good time. It’s always a good anytime. Restuarant 3 always makes me think about bacon. I digress.

This month’s DC Food Bloggers Happy Hour, Wednesday, May 5 (6-8 p.m.)  is being held at family-owned, Restaurant 3 in Clarendon, VA (2950 Clarendon Blvd). It’s one of my favorite places and it’s in a very convenient location. It’s just a stone’s throw from the Clarendon Metro (Orange line) and has excellent down-home Southern cookin’ via Chef, Brian Robinson.

On Wednesdays, Restaurant 3 offers $5 martinis in the bar and lounge. They will also have $3 drafts. For the Food Blogger happy hour, we will be in the reserved lounge area.

Come meet, mingle, and chat with fellow food bloggers. Whether you’re a regular DCFBHH attendee in need of a reminder or you’re interested in putting a face to a name for some of your favorite local food bloggers, come have a snack with us. The 5:01 Happy Hour at Art & Soul.

ART AND SOUL LAUNCHES “THE 5:01 SESSION” TO EASE THE DAILY GRIND

To reward nine-to-fivers after a long day of work, ArtBar at Art and Soul is offering “The 5:01 Session,” an after-work happy hour, unlike any other on Capitol Hill, that kicks-off today, Wednesday, March 31.  Complete with a new small bites menu by Executive Chef Travis Timberlake and the 7:10 pairing menu with seven options for $10 each, “The 5:01 Session” is designed to bring those that live and work in the Capitol Hill neighborhood together while offering a distinctive food and beverage driven experience.

Art and Soul’s lounge or “ArtBar” will also offer specially crafted cocktails, regional beers on tap, and an accessible wine list of esoteric wines and grape varietals from small batch winemakers at reduced prices from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. every Monday through Thursday.

The 7:10 pairing menu, a collaboration between Timberlake and General Manager/ Beverage Director Jay Poblador, features seven imaginative food and drink pairings for $10 each. The pairing menu was designed to give guests a unique, epicurean inspired experience and satisfy both hunger and thirst all in one. Pairings include Crispy Duck Wings with a 2007 Riesling, Mercer Estates, Yakima Valley; House Cured Jerky paired with the Our Manhattan Cocktail; Deviled Eggs paired with the signature Put Up Martini; and Pork Rinds paired with a flight of four regional beers on tap.

ArtBar’s new small bites menu will include the same Southern inspired dishes found on the pairing menu in addition to Fried Green Tomatoes with Lemon Caper Tartar; Fries (Sweet Potato or Boardwalk); and a choice of three different Chip Dips including Blue Cheese, French Onion and Maryland Crab all for under $6.

“I hope our guests have a lot of fun with the pairing menu and explore flavor combinations they might not have tried before,“ said Poblador. “Our goal was to come up with enjoyable yet unexpected pairings at a price point that encourages repeat visits.”

To gear up for the launch of the “The 5:01 Session” happy hour Poblador revamped ArtBar’s cocktail program to offer distinct hand-crafted and ingredient-driven cocktails, featuring components and liquors not often found in your average cocktail. Items from the Art and Soul kitchen also are incorporated to create ingredients like candied ginger and flavored simple syrups featuring seasonal items.  The specialty cocktails are available for $6 each, and include favorites such as the Put Ups Martini with pickled onion, okra, beets, and quail egg; Ginger Smash with tequila, ginger liquor, lime, lemon grass, and candied ginger; and The Bartlett with cachaca, pear puree, and lime.

“The 5:01 Session” also offers seasonal and regional beers on tap for $4, as well as an accessible list of 16 wines by the glass for $7 each, featuring acroamatic wines from small, relatively unknown winemakers.

Join the DC Food Bloggers  for their monthly Happy Hour on Wednesday, April 7 at 5 p.m. to try out the new menu!
