The Food & Wine Festival at the National Harbor and So You Think You Can Grill Contest.

Two contestants, Jason Yaskoir, Editor of food blog, DCFüd and Lincoln Rhoads competed for bragging rights and a brand new Weber grill grand prize on Sunday, June 13th at the So You Think You Can Grill? contest at the Food & Wine Festival at the National Harbor. The Beef Checkoff® Tent, supported by the Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative (pabeef.org), hosted the two grillers and three judges. Myself, Mike Brannon of Roseda Beef, and Chef Dave Zino.

Both contestants submitted their original non-published recipe several weeks ago and was hand-picked by the PA Beef Advisory Panel of judges. Jason’s Fried, Fried, Fried Veal burger was put to the test against Lincoln’s Flank Steak on Sunday for a grill-off. The two recipes were judged on several categories (on a 100 point scale) including use of main ingredient, taste, presentation, and originality.

Judging the contest was a new experience for me. I think it was fun and both contestants did a great job; however, Lincoln’s Flank Steak received higher marks for taste and presentation that gave him the lead over Jason’s Veal burger. Congrats to both Jason and Lincoln! 🙂
