Dining in DC judges local contest at Food & Wine Festival at National Harbor, June 12-13..

Join me, Lisa Shapiro to cheer on the finalists of the So You Think You Can Grill? Contest in The Beef Checkoff® tent at the 2010 Food and Wine Festival at National Harbor, Sunday, June 13 where I participate as a judge.  The cook-off begins at 4 PM. Other judges include, Chef Zino and Mike Brannon of Maryland’s local Roseda Beef. Also, just before contest don’t miss Chef Dave Zino on the Festival’s Viking Stage at 2:30 PM as he prepares a delectable dish perfect for summer.

The Beef Checkoff, through the Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative (www.pabeef.org), held a recipe contest, which ended May 21, for amateur grill masters in the National Capital Region in which amateur chefs and grill masters submitted an original unpublished recipe that’s prepared on the grill or in an outdoor kitchen. The top four recipes were selected by the The Beef Checkoff Advisory Panel and were notified recently that they will have the opportunity to go head-to-head in a two-round cook-off under the Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner.™ tent at the Food & Wine Festival at National Harbor on June 12th and 13th.  Congratulations to all finalists!! I look forward to tasting your sumptious dishes! May the Best Griller Win!

In addition to bragging rights, the grand prize winner will receive a brand new Weber grill, a copy of The Healthy Beef Cookbook, the chance to have their recipe published on www.BeefItsWhatsForDinner.com and a set of steak knives.

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.

Tickets to the Food and Wine Festival at National Harbor can be purchased online at www.foodandwinenh.com.

See You By The Water!!
